Russia considers Crimea's liberation: Ukraine's Navy on Russian readiness to defend peninsula
Ukrainian Navy spokesman Dmytro Pletenchuk says Russian fortifications in Crimea show their serious approach to a potential military liberation of the peninsula
He spoke about this on Espreso TV.
“There is now information that the Russians are actively digging in and preparing lines of fortifications. It should be noted here that such actions are also related to the end of the fiscal year, and they need to “utilize” the funds as soon as possible. That is why they are now trying to hastily carry out engineering work in the temporarily occupied Crimea. We all understand that this is how some of them will make another good fortune,” Pletenchuk explained.
A spokesperson for the Ukrainian Navy emphasized that Russia takes very seriously the possibility of Ukraine conducting an amphibious operation to liberate Crimea.
“Russia is preparing for various scenarios in Crimea. They are probably seriously considering the option that Ukraine will liberate the temporarily occupied Crimea. That is why they are trying to prepare now. In particular, they are digging trenches, building fortifications and defense lines in Crimea. There is no other way to explain their preparations. In addition, the Russians are digging in landing zone areas. That is, by their actions they are taking seriously the possibility of Ukraine's attempts to liberate Crimea by military means,” he added.
