On Monday, December 23, YouTube traffic in Russia dropped to just 20% of normal levels, suggesting the platform is effectively being blocked

This was reported by the BBC Russian Service, citing IT expert Mikhail Klimarev.

Google’s monitoring service now shows YouTube traffic in Russia at 8.5 points, down from 40 previously.

"This means it’s now at about 20% of the usual traffic, not just a temporary issue but a real block. We can confirm that YouTube is blocked in Russia," Klimarev said.

  • The Google AdSense advertising service has fully shut down monetization for accounts in Russia and stopped operating on the Russian Internet (Runet)
