Ukraine needs to step up its capabilities to strike inside Russia — military expert Zgurets
Defense Express CEO and military expert Serhiy Zgurets has commented on the December 21 attack, where at least seven drones hit Russia's Kazan, with some striking residential buildings
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"There could be two possible outcomes from our (Ukrainian - ed.) drones hitting high-rise buildings in the Russian Federation. Either Russia’s electronic warfare systems (EW) were active at the time, affecting the routes of our drones, which are usually aimed at primary military targets, or certain nuances led to these two drones striking that high-rise. In any case, the potential for strikes on the Russian Federation exists, but it must be refined, taking into account all the risks associated with Russia's EW systems. That said, given how Russia operates—deliberately using precision weapons to strike our civilian cities—it’s unlikely that avoiding such challenges is a top priority," Zgurets stated.
After the attack on Kazan, Putin threatened Ukraine with "much greater destruction." However, Russia lacks the capacity to intensify its strikes on Ukraine further.
"There’s no point in trying to intimidate us anymore since Russia is already using all its arsenals except for nuclear weapons. This includes strategic bombers armed with cruise missiles, their entire stock of long-range weapons, pseudo-hypersonic Kinzhal missiles, and even attempts to threaten with Oreshnik. Russia has already deployed all of this. Therefore, I don’t see any new capabilities for Russia to escalate combat operations or strikes on our cities, as their intensity and capacity have already reached the peak of what they can achieve," Zgurets concluded.
