Developing nuclear weapons within two months is realistic - Ukrainian major
Ukrainian National Guard Reserve Major Oleksii Hetman stated that Ukraine possesses the necessary technologies, experts, and uranium to develop a nuclear bomb
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
“We have the technology, the knowledge, the specialists to create a nuclear bomb, we just need financial resources, or rather energy, to turn uranium into a substance for an explosion. We have the uranium, it is also not a big secret. We mine uranium in our country, so we need to excavate uranium, enrich it, and create a bomb. I think two months is a very realistic timeframe,” emphasized the reserve major of the National Guard of Ukraine.
According to Oleksii Hetman, Ukraine once gave up its nuclear arsenal, which was the fourth largest in the world, in exchange for security guarantees. Now, he argues, Ukraine is being told that the security guarantees were poorly defined legally at the time.
"I agree with President Zelenskyy, who said that we have two options: either join NATO or return nuclear weapons. We want to move towards NATO, but if Ukraine is not accepted, we are being pushed toward another path. We could make this bomb quite quickly - perhaps not by New Year, but within two months, it's possible," concluded Oleksii Hetman.
- In October, the German tabloid Bild reported that Ukraine allegedly possesses the materials and knowledge to rebuild its nuclear arsenal within weeks. However, the Ukrainian Presidential Office stated that this information has no basis in reality.
- On November 14, the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs denied reports claiming that Ukraine intended to create or acquire nuclear weapons.
- Yevhen Dykyi, former commander of the Aidar Battalion, also suggested that the creation of a nuclear bomb in Ukraine would be a very powerful incentive for an invitation to NATO.
