'We are holding the line': Ukraine's 80th Brigade on situation in Russia's Kursk region
Senior Sergeant Petro Haidashchuk with the 80th Separate Air Assault Brigade says that for several days, the military has not observed the tactics that North Korean forces previously used in the Kursk region
He spoke about this on Espreso TV.
“There is information that the North Korean military units have been withdrawn. Over the past few days, we have not seen them. More precisely, we have not observed the specific tactics characteristic of North Korean military. Unlike the Russians, they used the tactic of large human waves—up to fifty people moving without armored vehicles for 10-15 kilometers towards our positions. Upon reaching the assault range, these soldiers could simply run in full height toward our positions, disregarding the losses inflicted by our artillery and drones,” he said.
Petro Haidashchuk pointed out that the North Koreans would simply step over their wounded and the bodies of the dead in an attempt to reach Ukrainian positions. However, he assured that such attempts by the Russians and North Korean troops in their area of responsibility have been unsuccessful: “We have managed and continue to inflict significant losses on the enemy.”
He also described the situation in the Kursk region, emphasizing that this direction is very important for the Russians.
“They (the Russians) have long set themselves the goal of pushing out our forces, and they do not hide this. In the area of responsibility of the 80th Brigade, the situation remains quite stable. We manage to repel assaults and hold the defensive positions we had previously occupied. Russia uses artillery, drones, and armored vehicles. The armored vehicles are mainly used to transport assault units and less frequently for direct fire support. Thanks to the experience of our paratroopers, effective unit management, and a well-structured defense, we have been able to hold our positions and repel enemy assaults, as we are currently in a defensive posture,” added Petro Haidashchuk.
