Kursk volunteer Vladimir Sinelnikov and Ukrainian Armed Forces commandant’s office spokesman Oleksiy Dmytrashkivskyi reported the attack, which was later confirmed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff.

"Today, February 1, 2025, at 5:54 p.m., Russian forces struck a boarding school in Sudzha. Ninety-five people remain trapped under the rubble. Moans and screams can be heard. Most of them are elderly and bedridden. Military commandant forces are carrying out search and rescue operations," Dmytrashkivskyi told RBC-Ukraine.

According to Sinelnikov, this marks the fifth attack on a temporary accommodation site for Russian citizens since the start of 2025.

The Kursk volunteer noted that the boarding school housed mostly the elderly and sick, along with those who had lost their homes due to the war.

"At the time of the attack, dozens of local residents were inside, preparing for evacuation. The Russian side knew the building was occupied only by civilians — locals, including women and children. Right now, every effort is being made to save those who survived," the Ukrainian General Staff stated, releasing a video from the scene.

Footage shows the second and third floors of the building’s central section completely destroyed.

Later, the Ukrainian Air Force revealed the trajectory of the guided bomb launched at the boarding school. A screenshot from the "Virazh-tablet" system confirms the bomb came from Russian territory, not Ukraine.

The image features the city of Sudzha on the left and a KAB bomb launched from an aircraft, highlighted in red.

The strike destroyed the building’s central section. As of the evening of February 1, four people were confirmed dead, four seriously injured, and around 80 uninjured civilians found. The wounded were transported to stabilization points for medical aid and further evacuation.

"As always, Russian media are blaming Ukraine for the strike. It won’t work! There is undeniable evidence and objective control data proving Russian tactical aviation carried out the attack," the Air Force stated.

Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry accused Ukraine of the attack, claiming Ukrainian forces fired missiles from the Sumy region.

Russia is bombing its own citizens

Today’s Russian airstrike on the Sudzha boarding school, which has sheltered district residents for months, is the fifth such attack in 2025. Previous strikes occurred on January 14, 16, 17, and 20.
