Estonia provides Ukraine with small arms and ammunition
At a meeting on August 10, the Estonian government has supported the proposal of Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur to provide Ukraine with 150 handguns and ammunition
The press service of Estonia's Ministry of Defense reported the information.
“We must support Ukraine in their fight against the continuing Russian aggression. Once again, we have found an opportunity where Estonia can lend a helping hand,” said Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur.
“The Russian Federation cannot gain anything from this aggression. Therefore, all who support Ukraine must both speed up the provision of military aid as well as increase the capacity of their defense industry,” he added.
Estonia's assistance to Ukraine
Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Estonia has been providing financial and military assistance to Ukraine, as well as hosting refugees. As of now, Estonia has provided military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of over EUR 400 million, or over 1% of GDP.
In January 2023, Estonia allocated a record batch of heavy weapons, including howitzers, anti-tank weapons, and shells. The total amount of aid amounted to over EUR 113 million.
After Russian troops blew up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, Tallinn promptly provided Ukraine with assistance in eliminating the consequences of the man-made disaster, providing EUR 457,000 worth of equipment.
On June 17, the Estonian government became the first in Europe to approve the principles of using Russian assets frozen in the country to support Ukraine.
