Escape of 100,000 men from Belarus will end in the collapse of the country - oppositionist Latushko on mobilization of Belarusians
Oleksandr Lukashenko, self-proclaimed president of the Republic of Belarus, is trying not to repeat the mistakes of his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, when recruiting citizens for the war with Ukraine, and prefers covert mobilization.
Pavlo Latushko, Belarusian oppositionist, representative of the United Transitional Cabinet, told it Espreso.TV live on air.
"It (hidden mobilization, - ed.) is already underway. And this information is confirmed everywhere," the politician said.
According to Latushko, the company receives requests for lists of conscripts.
In particular, KGB structures are involved in the conduct of covert mobilization, which checks the mobilized for "benevolence".
In addition, as Pavlo Latushko emphasized, "the first reading in the parliament passed" a new additional regulatory act, according to which the KGB will be able to limit travel abroad "including young people of conscription age - up to 27 years old."
"Mobilization (in Belarus - ed.) is going point-by-point, calmly. Lukashenko does not want to repeat Russia's mistakes. It is in the eastern regions, which are closer to Russia, where the mood, let's say, is more loyal to Russia than in the western or central Belarus. This process has already started," the oppositionist added.
The current "counter-terrorist operation" was implemented by Lukashenko's regime to ensure such covert mobilization and the creation of appropriate moods in society, the oppositionist assures.
"If Lukashenko oversteps the stick, it will provoke the situation and Belarusians will leave the country. A lot of people are already leaving. A lot of Belarusians are leaving. Both businessmen and young people. Because everyone perfectly understands the threat of mobilization and does not want to participate in this war" - Latushko said.
In case of general mobilization, the United Transitional Cabinet, as the politician explained, is already preparing "green corridors" with Western countries for those wishing to avoid going to war with Ukraine.
"If Lukashenko announces a tougher, principled mobilization, this may lead to a certain collapse in the system. Belarus is not Russia. If 100,000 men leave the territory of Belarus at the same time, or Lukashenko closes the border, then this is a collapse. If he does not even close the border, they will leave quite quickly and a lot, this is also a collapse. In any case, this is an upheaval. Lukashenko is afraid of this. He is really afraid of this, so he is trying to make amends for the time being. So far, he manages to control the situation, but in society - no I will say that there is a tension and this tension is starting to increase," Pavlo Latushko explained.
