Erdogan plays sultan to prove that Turkey can become a new center of power - international expert
Andrii Karakuts, head of the civil organization Center for Applied Research, believes that Recep Tayyip Erdogan is playing the role of a sultan in order to prove that Turkey can become a new regional power center
The expert shared his opinion with Espreso TV.
"Turkish President Erdogan is currently playing the role of a sultan and is trying to prove that he can be a new center of regional power capable of influencing processes. In relations with Putin, Erdogan is protecting his interests: he is concerned about the issue of Northern Syria, where an operation against the Kurds is planned. Erdogan needs Russia not to interfere", Karakuts said.
The international expert added that Turkey and Russia have been closely cooperating in the economic sphere in recent years.
"All these summits with Putin are nothing new. Turkey and the Russian Federation have been cooperating very closely economically for the last 5 years. Turkey receives a lot of natural gas from Russia. It is difficult to say that Ankara can quickly break these relations", he noted.
