"Don't stop at sending a few tanks": Estonian Foreign Minister urges Germany to increase military support to Ukraine
Estonia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Urmas Reinsalu, has called on Germany to increase its military support for Ukraine, saying that the aid provided to date is not sufficient
He told about this in an interview with Welt.
"I once again call on our German friends to increase arms supplies to Ukraine. We must be quick now, we cannot wait, we must meet our challenges. We are all still doing too little", Reinsalu said.
The Minister understands that for Germany in itself the sending of weapons is a huge change and is difficult, especially psychologically.
"We cannot rest after sending a few tanks. War is expensive. But Ukrainians make real sacrifices. Our duty is to support them in their struggle. This is our moral duty. Because we could have done more to restrain the 'Russian beast'. Ukrainians are the bravest nation in the world. But they cannot survive without our help", Reinsalu noted.
He also called for strengthening sanctions against Russia.
"If we are not ready to accept a small loss now, the loss to our economies will be much greater later - if Russia is not stopped in Ukraine. Sanctions are morally necessary for this. We must not make concessions now. Just talking about this weakens our European position. We must stand up and even strengthen sanctions. You see, the history of the 20th century is repeating itself, genocide is taking place in Ukraine. What are we doing to prevent this? How will our grandchildren judge us? These questions bother me. Are we the generation of Churchills or Chamberlains? History is being made now. I have been to Ukraine quite often, I know what is happening there, bombs are falling on schools and hospitals. And we're talking about our electricity or gas bills getting too expensive. It's not good and can have unpleasant consequences, but let's look at it in perspective", Reinsalu said.
