Death toll reaches 34 thousand after earthquake in Turkey and Syria
As of the evening of February 12, 34 179 people were reported dead as a result of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria

Turkish Emergency Coordination Center SAKOM reported 29 605 dead.
The confirmed death toll in Syria is 4 574. That number includes more than 3,160 in opposition-held parts of northwestern Syria. The Syrian death toll also includes 1,414 deaths in government-controlled parts of Syria.

On February 10, six people who had been under the rubble of the destroyed building for more than 100 hours were rescued. A Ukrainian woman and her 4-year-old son were also rescued from the rubble.

On February 11, Mehmet Yashar Joshkun, the head of the construction contractor of the Renaissance residential complex in Hatay province, where buildings collapsed instantly during the earthquake, was detained in Turkey while trying to leave the country. Law enforcement officers subsequently detained or issued arrest warrants for approximately 130 people involved in the construction of the houses that collapsed.
