Canadian Parliament condemns Russian-staged referendums on Ukrainian occupied territories
The Canadian parliament has unanimously adopted a statement condemning the fake referendums that Russia is conducting in the temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories
The Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada, Yuliya Kovaliv, wrote about this on Facebook.
In the approved document, the House of Commons declares that it does not and will never recognize the legitimacy of these referendums.
The House of Commons confirms that the territory of Ukraine is the one that was recognized at the time of the Budapest Memorandum and includes Crimea and Donbas, illegally occupied by Russia in 2014.
"These sham referendums are part of Russia's illegal annexation scenario, which was used in 2014 when Russia held a sham referendum in an attempt to legitimize its illegal annexation of Crimea," the MPs said in a statement.
In addition, Canadian MPs called on the Canadian government to provide additional support to Ukraine until the return of all Ukrainian territories under the sovereign control of the Ukrainian government, including by strengthening sanctions against Russia and providing additional military, humanitarian, and financial assistance.
