Canada announces new military aid package for Ukraine: what it will include
Canada's Minister of National Defense Bill Blair has taken part in the 16th Ramstein meeting in Brussels, during which he announced a support package for Ukraine
The Canadian government's statement says this.
The aid package will include winter clothing and equipment, namely:
- boots
- thermal underwear
- winter sleeping bags,
- military uniforms for 2,000 women soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces
It is noted that this package is funded by a USD 500 million tranche of military assistance to Ukraine, announced by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in June 2023.
Blair also said that Canada will provide the next new package of donations from the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) inventory:
- 2,000 additional rounds of 155 mm caliber;
- smoke ammunition, including 955 rounds of 155-mm artillery smoke shells and more than 2,000 rounds of 81-mm smoke mortars;
- 2,260 gas masks;
- 277 1,000-pound aircraft bombs and fuses;
- various types of 76-mm naval ammunition.
The Canadian defense minister also noted that last week, the previously announced aid was delivered in the form of almost 8,000 rounds of 155-mm ammunition, 10,000 rounds of 105-mm artillery shells and about 2 million rounds of small arms ammunition.
"Ukrainians are fighting valiantly on the front lines against Russia's illegal and unprovoked war. Today's package of comprehensive military assistance will ensure that Ukraine has everything it needs to continue its fight for freedom, territorial integrity and democracy," Blair said.
