Biden's election campaign starts in Kyiv – diplomat Chalyi
Valeriy Chaly, diplomat and Ukraine's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, says that today's visit of the US President carries many messages and symbols
On Espreso TV, the diplomat commented on the visit of US President Joe Biden to Kyiv on February 20.
“I will say right away: I share the assessment that this is a historic visit. The US president has not been in Ukraine for 15 years, and George W. Bush came to Kyiv in 2008. The US support is key, but today is symbolic and important. In addition to the visit itself, we are also preparing for the G7 meeting, recently we had Ramstein, Munich, and now Foreign Minister Kuleba will go to The Hague and Brussels for very important talks, so this is a whole milestone,” the diplomat noted.
Valeriy Chaly pointed out that it is very symbolic that Biden's visit coincided with the Day of Remembrance of the Heavenly Hundred Heroes, i.e. with historical events that go hand in hand with the war, and the same people who defended the dignity of Ukraine are now fighting at the front.
“The visit itself is a very serious signal to the Kremlin, to Russia, and you can see how they are ‘burning up’ from it. And I will say one more thing: this visit is important for US President Joseph Biden. My impression is that from that day on, Biden's election campaign for the next term in the White House began in Kyiv. By the way, today is Presidents' Day in the United States, namely President George Washington's Day, but in some states it is celebrated as US Presidents' Day. So today is full of symbolism, a lot of messages, a dynamic and eventful day. We will be discussing the consequences of this visit for a long time to come,” Chaly said.
