US Congress can't be blamed for everything: political expert Tsybulko on US military aid

Volodymyr Tsybulko, a political expert, believes that politicians in Congress demonstrate a certain skepticism about the leadership qualities of the Ukrainian government

He expressed this opinion on Espreso TV.

"The US is a strange story in general, because, for example, almost 60% of Americans support Ukraine's struggle. Let's see, the latest poll shows that Americans call Ukraine their second ally in the world, they believe that Ukraine will stand by their side in case of an attack on the United States. This means that politicians in Congress are well aware of the sentiments of American society in support of Ukraine, but when they do not vote and organize such maneuvers, not everything can be attributed to the US election campaign," the political expert said.

According to him, American politicians still demonstrate some skepticism about the leadership qualities of the Ukrainian government.

"We observed how, before the New Year, the parliament sent a campaign team to the United States at a time when there were no politicians in the constituencies. And, to be honest, the selection of characters who were supposed to convince American politicians that Ukraine should be supported caused some skepticism and surprise. Therefore, not all the blame can be attributed to the US Congress, which has been delaying aid. Along with the Congress' delay, European countries have now increased their aid to Ukraine to such an extent that we should try not to mislead at least our European partners and work honestly. But when we look at the draft laws introduced by some government officials, it is simply surprising. These legislative initiatives create an image of Ukraine, I would say, as a too young democracy," said Volodymyr Tsybulko.

  • March 25 House of Representatives Committee Chairman Michael McCaul, a Republican, announces that Speaker Mike Johnson plans to bring the Ukraine aid bill to a vote after Easter (March 31).
  • On March 26, the administration of US President Joe Biden once again called on the House of Representatives to pass a bill to help Ukraine. They emphasize that this issue is closely related to the national security of the state.
  • March 28 President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy talks to Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson.
