Russia launches third offensive attempt in Kursk region — military expert Zgurets
Serhiy Zgurets, Defense Express CEO and military expert, stated that Russia launched a third attempt to advance in the Kursk region a week ago
He shared the information on Espreso TV.
"The Russian offensive in the Kursk region is underway – this is already the third Russian attempt to launch counterattacks and push our (Ukrainian - ed.) units back. The third offensive began about a week ago," noted Zgurets.
According to a military expert, Russian forces are attempting to operate in three directions, primarily focusing on Sudzha. The most intense fighting is taking place around Novoivanovka, located to the west of Sudzha. Another direction is further north, in Pogrebki, where Russian troops have made some progress despite significant losses. The third direction is to the southeast, where Russian troops are attempting to cross the Psel River to create a threat to Sudzha, which is crucial for the logistical supply of Ukrainian forces from Sumy. This route serves as a key logistical artery for the Ukrainian Armed Forces and is central to their defense strategy.
"Very soon, Russia will intensify pressure on these three directions. Currently, nearly 50,000 Russian troops are concentrated in this area. There is no information available regarding the elimination of North Koreans at this moment," emphasized Zgurets.
The military expert, Serhiy Zgurets, added that the foothold in the Kursk region will play an important political role in future events. There are orders from Putin to push Ukrainian forces back before Trump's inauguration, while maintaining the foothold is a key part of Ukraine's victory plan or future negotiations. Therefore, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will continue to hold this area, although its size has somewhat decreased.
"We have finally started building fortifications in certain sections, and support is being provided. The main tasks of this foothold are being carried out - destroying Russian forces and drawing a certain number of Russian troops to this direction," Zgurets summarized.
- Russian leader Vladimir Putin has deployed 50,000 Russian and North Korean troops to retake the Kursk region before Donald Trump assumes office as president of the United States.
- Tens of thousands of Russian troops from elite units are attempting to push back Ukrainian forces and advance along the Kursk frontline.
