EU shouldn’t increase aid to Ukraine if U.S. pulls back - Slovak Foreign Minister
Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár believes that the EU should not bear the entire burden of supporting Ukraine if the United States ceases its assistance
This is reported by Dennik.
“The conflict cannot be unilaterally resolved, for example, by restoring Ukraine’s control over its entire territory,” he added.
Blanár also recalled that Donald Trump, during his election campaign, expressed intentions to end the war in Ukraine.
“Let’s wait until he presents the steps he plans to take to resolve this conflict, and we are ready to be part of that process,” he emphasized.
Moreover, he confirmed that Slovakia is refusing military support to Ukraine. In his view, the situation is heading toward a frozen conflict that will be governed by certain rules.
“There must be negotiations about how this will look in the future, but it is always better to agree on some kind of ceasefire and freeze the situation in its current state. Otherwise, things could become even worse for both the Ukrainian and potentially the Russian sides,” Slovakia’s foreign minister concluded.
- On January 21, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico. They discussed the war in Ukraine and reportedly claimed efforts to achieve a ceasefire.
