Zelenskyy names potential participants of future peace talks with Russia
Ukrainian president expressed hope that the USA and Europe would also participate in potential peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his hope that future negotiations between Ukraine and Russia would involve the USA and Europe as well.
Speaking at a briefing following a meeting with Moldovan President Maia Sandu, Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of having a European voice in the talks.
"I hope the platform for negotiations will include Ukraine, the U.S., Europe, and Russia. I would really like the European voice to be there. It’s important for us because we will be members of the European Union," he said.
However, he also noted that the exact structure of the negotiation process is not yet clear, as there is no unified plan at the moment.
"We have our plan, and as you know, we’ve done a lot. I believe we have a strong document, the Peace Formula, which is fully prepared. It outlines for us what constitutes a just peace," Zelenskyy said. He added that this document would be used as part of a joint plan with partners.
Negotiations about Ukraine cannot happen without Ukraine's involvement
Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that it is impossible to negotiate about Ukraine without Ukraine itself being involved. He stated that excluding Ukraine from any negotiation process would result in political outcomes, not real ones, and those outcomes would be unrelated to ending the war.
He also emphasized that he had “good meetings” with U.S. President Donald Trump, and supports Trump's efforts to make the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia successful.
"I'm confident that he has great chances, and we will believe that he will succeed. This can only be done with Ukraine. Otherwise, it simply won't work because Russia doesn't want to end the war, but Ukraine does. And this is a very important argument," the president mentioned.
