Zaporizhzhia direction is promising for both Ukrainian and Russian forces - Roman Kostenko
Roman Kostenko, a Ukrainian lawmaker and colonel of Ukraine's Security Service, says that the Zaporizhzhia direction will be more active
The colonel of Ukraine's Security Service gave a comment on the further development of the situation in the Zaporizhzhia region on Espreso TV.
“I agree with some experts who said that from a military point of view, the Zaporizhzhia direction is promising for both sides. For example, if we take the east, the Russians are trying to break the situation there from a political point of view, because they need a victory that can be shown to internal and external consumers. But from a military point of view, the Russian troops look more in the direction of Zaporizhzhia, because they have some successes there: they took Enerhodar and some positions along the Dnipro River, and also established themselves opposite Nikopol and other settlements. If the Russians advance along the Dnipro River, they will always have their flanks closed. Accordingly, from a military point of view, it is much better if they have plans to stay there in the future,” Kostenko explained.
Roman Kostenko emphasized that both sides understand the prospects of this direction, because it would be correct for Ukrainian army to work in the Berdiansk - Melitopol corridor, where the logistical arteries of the Russian army pass, and if they are damaged, then the war will turn in a different direction.
“When we liberated the Kharkiv region, there was relative calm in Zaporizhzhia, except for artillery duels. Then everyone turned their attention to the Kherson direction, which was strategically important, and again there were no active operational movements in the Zaporizhzhia region. And now, when a line has been formed in the east and we have established ourselves along the Dnipro River, the Zaporizhzhia direction will be more active,” he noted.
