According to the National Security and Defense Council's Center for Countering Disinformation, two fakes appeared in the world on May 27.

Disinformation: Irish journalist Chay Bowes wrote on his X page: "The conflict in Ukraine didn't start when Russian troops crossed the border in 2022, it started when the Ukrainian regime, backed by the CIA began terrorizing the dissenting citizens of Donbas 10 years ago. This inconvenient reality is routinely ignored by the western media.”

Rebuttal: The journalist is trying to portray Ukraine as the initiator of the war in the east that began in 2014. However, it was Russia that crossed the state border of Ukraine in 2014 and began killing the population of Donbas, and the Ukrainian military stood up to defend Ukrainian territory and its inhabitants from Russian aggression.

Disinformation: Former US intelligence officer Scott Ritter said in an interview on the Danny Haiphong YouTube channel: "The Russians are talking about Ukrainian casualties, which, as you know, are about 400,000, but the fact remains that this is a gross underestimation. There is every reason to believe that the Ukrainians have lost about 500,000 killed, and on top of that you can add a million wounded, it's a huge number.”

Rebuttal: The statement uses the rhetoric of Russian propaganda about "huge losses in the Ukrainian army supported by Western partners". In this way, the Kremlin is trying to shift the focus away from the consequences of Russia's tactics of "meat assaults" in the war against Ukraine and show that the losses of the Ukrainian army are much higher than those of Russia.

  • On May 27, it became known that Russia had launched a large-scale information campaign to mark the tenth anniversary of the start of the battle for Donetsk airport. As part of it, the enemy is trying to shift the responsibility for the outbreak of war onto Kyiv by talking about Ukraine's "aggressive attack on Donbas.”
