EU to loan €35 billion to Ukraine, Ursula von der Leyen announces during Kyiv visit
On Friday, September 20, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen arrived in Kyiv and announced that the European Union will provide Ukraine with a loan of €35 billion
She reported this on X.
"Relentless Russian attacks means Ukraine needs continued EU support. The European Commission will provide a loan of up to 35 billion euros to Ukraine as part of the G7 pledge,” wrote von der Leyen.
She also noted that this is another significant contribution of the European Union to Ukraine's recovery.
Earlier, she announced her arrival in Ukraine's capital on X.
“My 8th visit to Kyiv comes as the heating season starts soon, and Russia keeps targeting energy infrastructure,” the official said.
According to Ursula von der Leyen, the aim of her visit is to secure European support for Ukraine. She intends to discuss key issues, including defense at the frontlines, future loans from the G7, and Ukraine's preparations for the upcoming winter.

At a press conference in Brussels, Ursula von der Leyen said she would arrive in Kyiv on September 20. The official presented the EU's support plan for Ukraine's energy security in the face of the approaching winter.
She said that after that press conference, she would go to Kyiv to discuss those measures with President Zelenskyy the next day.
