Polish PM Tusk calls on EU countries to create common air defense system
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has called on the EU to create a common air defense system and to allocate at least €100 billion for the defense of the region
This is reported by Bloomberg.
"A lot of money well and wisely spent on European security will keep war away from Europe's borders for a long time. Perhaps forever," Tusk said at an economic conference in Katowice.
At the same time, the head of the Polish government added that the debate on improving the EU's defense capabilities should soon be completed with a decision.
Tusk's opinion was shared by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. She believes that the bloc should "restore, replenish and transform" its armed forces and supported the Polish prime minister's call for a common European air defense system.
The Prime Minister of Poland also called on the EU to strengthen its external border, noting that countries need to spend the coming years to increase military readiness to deter a potential attack by enemies.
"European borders need to be protected because they have become the boundaries between the continent of the world and the aggressors who are preparing a war for us, including hybrid methods," he said.
