Europe should prepare for terrorist attacks that may occur in next six months - political expert

Political analyst Oleh Saakian believes that EU countries should strengthen security measures due to the high probability of terrorist attacks

He expressed this opinion on Espreso TV.

"European countries should prepare for the fact that in the next six months there may be a series of terrorist attacks across Europe. Especially after the attack in the Crocus City Hall shopping center. Because Russia has realized that it can use this terrorist attack very effectively for its own purposes. Accordingly, if something blows up somewhere, for example, during the Olympics, and ISIS takes responsibility, Russia will be able to actualize itself in the status of a victim alongside someone else," Saakian explained.

The political scientist noted that Russia will try to create an image of a sacred victim of pro-Russian forces in Europe.

"It is obvious that the attempted assassination of the Slovak prime minister will be used by right-wing forces in the country. They will use the image of Fico, who suffered for his beliefs. However, it is quite possible that the assassination attempt is a signal from Russia to the right that there is no need to deviate from the pro-Russian agenda. Therefore, it is quite obvious that Russia will create an image of a sacred victim of the pro-Russian camp in the EU," he added.

What is known about the attempted murder of Fico

On Wednesday, May 15, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was wounded in a shooting after a government meeting. It was reported that he received multiple life-threatening injuries.

Later, Slovak Deputy Prime Minister Tomas Taraba said that the operation went well and that Fico's life was not in danger, the BBC reports.

Slovak Interior Minister Matusz Szutai Estok said that the police are currently working with only one version of the motives for the attack on Prime Minister Robert Fico - an attempted murder.

Slovakia has indicted 71-year-old Juraj Cintula, who is suspected of attacking Fico. He faces 25 years to life in prison.
