Why Russian army needs Marinka? UK intelligence identifies goals and prospects of achieving them
Russian troops are seeking to capture Marinka to advance westward toward Kurakhove. However, a major breakthrough is highly unlikely
UK’s Defence Intelligence reports this on X.
The British military analysts note that heavy fighting is underway for control of the destroyed town of Marinka and its surrounding areas in south-eastern Ukraine.
“Russia has likely further reduced the small pockets of Ukrainian controlled territory remaining within the town boundary,” the statement says.
“One of Russia’s operational objectives in the area is likely to secure the 00510 and N15 highways to eventually advance further west towards the town of Kurakhove,” the UK’s Defence Intelligence adds.
According to the British military, despite the Russian army’s advances, a major, operationally significant Russian breakthrough in Marinka sector remains highly unlikely.
