US to deploy its aviation and artillery units in Latvia
Latvia’s Ministry of Defense has announced the strengthening of the US military presence in the country: American soldiers and military equipment will be deployed to Latvia on a rotational basis
Latvia’s MoD made the announcement on its official website.
The ministry announced the approval of US plans to strengthen its military presence in the Baltic states: American soldiers and military equipment will be deployed to the country on a rotational basis.
“In the coming years the US will ensure the presence of rotational units in both the Ādaži and the Lielvārde military bases, which will significantly contribute to deterrence and defense, as well as improve interoperability between the Latvian and the US armed forces,” the ministry writes.
The US Armed Forces initially plan to deploy artillery and aviation units on Latvian territory, which meets the needs of the country's defense capabilities.
“When our transatlantic partners talk about Baltic’s states defense, they do not joke around. The US government understands that deterrence is based on strong presence and cooperation. Our allies have always supported the independence of the Baltic States, and today, when assessing geopolitical risks, persuasively demonstrate that they will continue to do so,” emphasizes Latvia’s Minister of Defence Artis Pabriks.
