Massive missile attack is Putin's answer to illusory "Christmas truce" talks – Ukraine's FM
Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called the massive Russian attack on Ukraine on December 25 the Russian leader's response to those discussing a Christmas ceasefire
He wrote about this on X.
"Another massive Russian strike against Ukraine’s energy system. This Christmas terror is Putin’s response to those who spoke about illusionary 'Christmas ceasefire,'" Sybiha commented.
He also pointed out that a Russian missile flew through the airspace of Moldova and Romania. This, he added, is Russia's reminder that its threats go beyond Ukraine.
For context, on December 11, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban proposed a Christmas truce and a large-scale prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia. However, the Ukrainian President's Office clarified that Ukraine had not been consulted on the matter.
"As always, the Hungarian side did not discuss anything with Ukraine. As always, the Hungarian side did not inform us about its contacts with Moscow. And, as always, Ukraine did not authorize Hungary to act on its behalf," said Dmytro Lytvyn, communications adviser to the Ukrainian President.
On December 22, Pope Francis called for prayers for a ceasefire during Christmas across all conflict zones, including Ukraine.
"Tormented Ukraine continues to be struck by attacks against the city, which at times damage schools, hospitals, and churches. May the weapons be silenced and Christmas carols resound! Let us pray for a ceasefire on all war fronts, in Ukraine, the Holy Land, in all the Middle East and the entire world, at Christmas," the Pope urged.
