Ukraine downs 59 missiles, 54 drones in Russian attack on Christmas
During the night attack on December 25, Russia launched 184 aerial targets at Ukraine. Air defenders managed to shoot down 59 missiles and 54 drones
The Ukrainian Air Force reported the information.
On the night of December 25, Russian forces launched a combined strike on Ukraine's fuel and energy sector facilities using various types of air-, ground-, and sea-launched missiles, as well as Shahed attack drones and decoy drones of other types.
In total, the Air Force's radio-technical troops detected and tracked 184 Russian aerial targets, including:
- 2 KN-23 ballistic missiles (launch area: Voronezh region);
- 10 S-300/S-400 surface-to-air missiles (launch area: Belgorod region);
- 12 Kalibr cruise missiles (from the Black Sea);
- 50 Kh-101/Kh-55SM cruise missiles launched from Tu-95MS strategic bombers (launch areas: Volgograd region, Caspian Sea);
- 4 Kh-59/Kh-69 guided missiles launched by tactical aviation (launch area: Belgorod region, Russia);
- 106 Shahed attack drones and various decoy drones (launched from areas near Bryansk, Millerovo, Oryol, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Russia).
As of 12 p.m., preliminary data confirms the destruction of 113 aerial targets: 55 Kh-101, Kh-55SM, and Kalibr cruise missiles, 4 Kh-59/Kh-69 guided missiles, and 54 Russian drones. Additionally, the Air Force reported that 52 UAVs failed to reach their targets (lost location).
"Russia targeted Ukrainian energy facilities in Kharkiv, Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Zhytomyr, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Zaporizhzhia regions. Unfortunately, the Russian attack caused damage," the Air Force added.
