US senators pinpoint need to provide Ukraine with long-range HIMARS missiles
US senators Lindsey Graham and Richard Blumenthal, who arrived in Ukraine the day before, have openly called for Ukraine to be supplied with longer-range missiles for HIMARS systems.
They told about this in an interview with Reuters.
"Blumenthal also said he supported further arms supplies to Ukraine, including HIMARS rocket systems 'with longer ranges', Harpoon anti-ship missiles, and air defense systems, on the condition that Ukraine did not use these to attack Russian territory," the message states.
Senator Graham also stressed the need for immediate arms supplies.
"We have a chance here in the next 60 days... the decisions we make can turn the tide of this war in favor of Ukraine," Graham noted.
Graham and Blumenthal co-sponsored a resolution calling on US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to designate Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism. The senators submitted the corresponding document for consideration on May 10, 2022. And on June 23, the Senate Committee on International Relations voted for this resolution, which allows the document to be put to a vote in the Senate in the future.
According to both senators, at the end of their visit to Kyiv, they will call on the Senate to support the resolution recognizing the Russian Federation as a state that sponsors terrorism.
"When we come back to the United States, we will try to get the Senate to pass this resolution as a whole. We hope it will push the administration to designate Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism, in the category of Iran, Syria and North Korea," Graham said.
