US isn't inclined to provide Ukraine with ATACMS missile systems - CNN
US President Joe Biden's administration is unlikely to significantly change its approach to helping Ukraine fight Russia and is rebuffing some Ukrainian weapons requests for now
This is reported by CNN with reference to its own sources.
US officials generally view Ukraine's recent activity as evidence that the types of weapons and intelligence the West has been providing Ukraine in recent months have been sufficiently effective. Some officials warn that it is too early to call the rapid counteroffensive in Ukraine a turning point in the war, because Russia has far from exhausted its military capabilities.
Ukraine recently asked the US for ATACMS long-range missile systems, but some officials do not believe the situation on the frontline has changed enough to warrant a drastic change in strategy.
That is, currently the US is not inclined to provide Ukrainian forces with long-range tactical missile systems, also known as ATACMS.
However, CNN sources point out, some US military officials have also admitted that systems currently considered too escalating, such as F-16s, could eventually be provided to Ukraine. But the same sources warn that such a decision is probably a matter of the distant future, and is not related to Ukraine's recent successes.
