Ukrainian Navy to get four new warships
The Commander of the Ukrainian Navy, Vice Admiral Oleksiy Neizhpapa, has shared the timeline for the Ukrainian Navy receiving four new warships
He said this in an interview with ArmyInform.
"Despite the full-scale Russian aggression, the leadership of the state supports and understands that we must build a powerful fleet and look to the future. We understand that our victory is inevitable, but unfortunately, Russian enemy will still be our neighbour even after it leaves our territory," he said.
Neizhpapa stressed that it is important for Ukraine to have a powerful navy and that is why the construction of such ships as the Ivan Mazepa corvette continues, and it is proceeding according to the schedule and even ahead of schedule.
"All the weapons intended for the ship will be delivered on time, and next year this ship should join the Ukrainian Navy. The ship's armament is specified in the contract. It will be equipped with 76-mm and 205-mm artillery systems, cruise missiles, an anti-aircraft missile system with a range of more than 20 km, and electronic warfare equipment," he said.
The Vice Admiral noted that under the current contract, two ships are being built abroad.
"We planned to build the next two in Ukraine, as we are committed to developing our shipbuilding industry in the future. Therefore, the third and fourth ships should already be built in Ukraine," he added.
In addition, Neizhpapa noted that Ivan Mazepa's crew is being trained in Turkey. First, the crew will individually master the equipment and weapons installed on the ship. After individual training in their specialities, the crew will be given general training, as the Turkish Navy has ships of this type.
- On 31 May, Navy Commander Neizhpapa told which Russian ships and boats had been destroyed since the start of the full-scale invasion.
