Ukrainian kamikaze boats carry 850 kg explosives to strike Crimean Bridge
Ukraine's successful operation using kamikaze boats to target the Crimean Bridge showcased strategic planning and specialized vessel modifications
Defense Express writes about it.
In a recent report by CNN, Ukraine's maritime kamikaze drone attacks on the Crimean Bridge, the Russian Navy's Olenegorsky Gornyak landing ship on August 4, 2023, and the Sig military tanker on August 5, 2023, were highlighted. Exclusive footage from Ukraine's Security Service supported the report.
Vasyl Malyuk, the head of Ukraine's Security Service, provided significant insights. The attack on the Crimean Bridge involved SeaBaby sea drones, customized by SBU specialists, carrying 850 kg warheads. For the Olenegorsky Gornyak and Sig attacks, kamikaze boats with 450 kg warheads were utilized.
This development underlines the potency of the SeaBaby drone's reinforced hull, dispelling the notion of "kamikaze hydrocycles." The use of 450 kg warhead-equipped kamikaze boats demonstrates a successful weapon version, confirmed by a 4x3 meter hole in Olenegorsky Gornyak.
“Therefore, we can assume that this version of kamikaze naval drones will now dominate the production and new attacks on Russian naval targets,” the article says.
The drones' increased power doesn't compromise their small size (about 5 meters) or stealth capabilities, as observed in the Crimean Bridge attack, where their inconspicuous presence was advantageous.
