Ukrainian Air Force explain why Russia does not launch missiles from Mediterranean Sea
Russia does not launch missiles from the Mediterranean Sea, although its missile carriers are located there, because of the position of Turkey, which does not allow these ships to continue through its straits
This was stated by the spokesman of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Yuriy Ihnat during a telethon on January 17.
As of January 17, according to the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, there are 9 enemy ships in the Mediterranean Sea, including 5 carriers of Kalibr cruise missiles; the total volley is 72 missiles.
Ihnat reminded that Turkey controls the straits from the Black Sea to the Mediterranean in accordance with the Montreux Convention. In addition, Turkey is a member of NATO.
"Turkey strictly adheres to the Montreux Convention and does not allow these ships to pass through its straits," Ihnat said.
"The fact that they (Russians - ed.) have 72 missiles in the Mediterranean Sea... I want to see if someone will risk launching some Kalibr rockets through NATO countries. I think it is hardly realistic," he added.
- According to the South OC, Russia keeps missile carriers in the Black Sea with an almost record number of Kalibr missiles- 44 units.
