Ukraine will receive 14 VAMPIRE anti-drone systems
The American company L3Harris Technologies received a $40 million contract from the Pentagon to supply Ukraine with 14 missile launchers based on pickups
This is stated on the manufacturer's website.
Under the contract, L3Harris will install VAMPIRE kits on vehicles provided by the US government for operational combat support on the battlefield in Ukraine. The first four systems will be delivered by mid-2023, the remaining ten — by the end of 2023.
"We’re committed to supporting a U.S. strategic partner with a robust capability, as the people of Ukraine continue to defend their country and protect their independence," said Luke Savoie, President, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance, L3Harris.
The VAMPIRE prototype, presented to the Pentagon in April 2022, was selected in August as part of a $3 billion security assistance package under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative.
The VAMPIRE missile complex uses highly sensitive sensors to track threats, including drones and then intercepts them with laser-guided munitions. The system is designed to fit in the back of a commercial pickup truck.
- Last week the United States announced a new package of support for Ukraine in the field of defense worth more than $3 billion, which includes, in particular, Bradley infantry fighting vehicles.
- The White House assures that the United States has a confirmed and reliable plan for financing Ukraine's necessary security, economic, humanitarian and energy aid for almost the entire year 2023, and disagreements between political forces will not affect this.
