Ukraine, Taiwan won't end conflict
Taiwan's Foreign Minister Joseph Wu has told CNN that Beijing's ambitions won't be limited to Taiwan
According to the head of the foreign policy department, the PRC claims territory in the East China and South China seas, strengthens its influence in Africa, Latin America and South Asia, and works diligently to advance in the Pacific Ocean.
The same can be said about Russia's
ambitions. In 2014, Western politicians could naively think that Putin's ambitions were limited to Crimea and the eastern regions of Ukraine. Today, we can confidently say that Putin's ambitions are not limited to the conquest and annexation of Ukrainian territories. The Russian president wants to restore the Soviet Union within the framework of 1991 and the sphere of influence of the former USSR in Central Europe and the Balkans. Russia is increasing its influence in Asia and Africa and is working on monopoly influence in Antarctica.
Such is the logic of any authoritarianism. It dies if it does not expand. Dictatorships have nothing to do inside their country, especially when the people are the main ally and leader of the expansionist policy. Xi Jinping, Putin, and their compatriots are lucky.
Taiwan's foreign minister is confident that despite the strength of authoritarianism, it is shaky and democracy will finally win. However, the victory of democracy will be achieved at a very high price, and the countries that are on the border between democracy and dictatorship will suffer the most. The world must help the peoples of these countries to survive.
