Ukraine proposes to discuss "peace formula" under Antonio Guterres’s mediation. UN names conditions under which it is possible
The Ukrainian government plans to hold an international summit to discuss a formula for peace and ending the war and wants UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to chair the summit
The UN replied that Guterres' mediation is possible provided that all parties agree to it, ABC reports.
"As the secretary-general has said many times in the past, he can only mediate if all parties want him to mediate," the spokeswoman of the UN Secretary-General Florencia Soto Nino-Martinez said.
In an interview with AP, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that the "peace" summit is expected to be held by the end of February 2023.
"The United Nations could be the best venue for holding this summit because this is not about making a favor to a certain country. This is really about bringing everyone on board," Kuleba explained.
At the same time, speaking about Russia's participation in the summit, the Minister stressed that Moscow must first be held accountable for war crimes before the international court.
Kuleba also noted that Ukraine would welcome the participation of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
