The US no longer sees Russia as market economy
The United States of America abolished Russia's status as a country with a market economy
This is reported by Reuters publishing.
The US Commerce Department has revoked the status granted to Russia two decades ago, which restricted the calculation of anti-dumping duties on Russian goods.
It is noted that the "extensive" participation of the government in the Russian economy led to a distortion of prices and costs. And this, inaccurately reflects whether Russian companies fairly set import prices to the United States.
"This decision gives the United States the ability to apply the full force of U.S. anti-dumping law to address the market distortions caused by increased interference from the Russian government in their economy," the U.S. Department of Commerce said in a statement.
Washington granted Russia the status of a market economy in 2002. This was essential for Russia's accession to the World Trade Organization in 2012.
