Up to 100,000 Ukrainian soldiers estimated killed in war with Russia - media
Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, 60,000 to 100,000 Ukrainian soldiers may have been killed, with around 400,000 more likely wounded
The Economist reported the information, citing data from Western intelligence, defense officials, open sources, and the Ualosses website.
“These reports are difficult to verify independently. And soldiers who are missing, and presumed dead, are not always recorded in the data,” the journalists warn.
It is noted that, based on preliminary estimates, at least 60–100,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed to date. Approximately 400,000 more have likely sustained injuries that prevent them from continuing to fight.
“These numbers do not include civilian deaths, on which there is strikingly little data. Many tens of thousands of civilians are believed to have been killed,” the report states.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian resource UALosses reports that at least 60,435 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed since the beginning of Russia's invasion.
“The figures suggest that more than 0.5% of Ukraine’s pre-war population of men of fighting age (18-49-year-olds) have been killed. The data from UAlosses are not comprehensive and not all soldiers’ ages are known. The actual share of men who have died in the war is higher,” the journalists write.
- As of November 27, according to the Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff, Russia has lost at least 735,410 military personnel (killed and wounded) since the start of the full-scale invasion.
