Spain refuses to transfer Leopard tanks to Ukraine due to condition concerns
Spain's Defense Minister, Margarita Robles, has announced that the government has decided not to transfer Leopard tanks to Ukraine, because they are in an "unsatisfactory condition"
This was reported by El Mundo.
"Today we are considering all possibilities, but I can tell you that the Leopards, which have not been used in Zaragoza for many years, are impossible (to be sent to the war in Ukraine) because they are in an absolutely unsatisfactory condition", Margarita Robles said.
She added that appropriate tests were conducted, during which it was found that the tanks could not be used.
"We cannot provide them because it would be a risk to people", Robles said.
In July, it was reported that the Spanish government is preparing to transfer to Ukraine 10 Leopard 2A4 battle tanks and 20 M113 armored personnel carriers, which are in service with the Spanish army. In June, Germany banned Spain from selling 40 old Leopard 2A4 tanks of its own production to Ukraine.
