Ukraine will try Russian Guard officer who tortured people in freezers in Hostomel
An indictment against a Russian Guard officer who tortured people during the temporary occupation of Hostomel has been sent to court. He will be tried for violating the laws and customs of war
The press service of the Prosecutor General's Office reported.
"The investigation established that during the occupation of Hostomel in March 2022, the accused, together with his subordinates, held about 100 people on the territory of the aviation enterprise. They were kept in three non-working freezers. The smallest, 6 square meters in size, held 15 people, and the largest - about 30 or more. There were both civilians and prisoners of war among the captives," the report says.
People did not have the necessary medical care and sufficient food, they had to sleep sitting on the floor. Most of the prisoners were blindfolded. The temperature in these cells was uncomfortable, there was no ventilation or light, and no toilet.
The detainees were beaten with hands, feet, and the butt of automatic weapons, tortured with electric shocks, deprived of air by putting a plastic bag over their heads, and imitated execution.
"By these prohibited methods, the occupiers tried to obtain information from the victims about the military and political leadership of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine and persons who participated in the ATO/Joint Forces," the Prosecutor General's Office said, noting that the perpetrators had caused physical and psychological suffering to the people.
Note: According to part one of Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person shall be presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved by law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
