At least 575 Ukrainian children killed as result of Russia's armed aggression
According to official data, 1,609 Ukrainian children were injured and 575 were killed as a result of Russian armed aggression. The real numbers may be much higher
Ukraine's Human Rights Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets said this during a meeting with a delegation from the German Bundestag led by Nils Gründer.
"As a result of Russian aggression, Ukrainians are being killed and injured every day. It has been officially established that 1,609 children were injured and 575 were killed. The real numbers may be even worse, as we do not have access to data from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine," said the Ombudsman.
He emphasized that the Russian Federation cynically and systematically violates the Geneva Conventions relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War and the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
Lubinets also told the German delegation about the work on the implementation of the Peace Formula and the importance of third-country involvement in returning all Ukrainian citizens from captivity and deportation.
"We appreciate Germany's assistance, but Ukraine needs even more support from all our international partners. If we want the democratic system not to lose to totalitarian regimes, then civilized countries must quickly make difficult decisions to strengthen our opposition to Russia. Otherwise, the war in Europe will not be limited to Ukraine," the Ombudsman emphasized.
- At the end of June 2024, the Prosecutor General’s Office reported that Russia had killed 551 children and injured more than 1,411 since the beginning of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
