Russian troops cut Mariupol's Azovstal steel plant for scrap
The Mariupol plant Azovstal, which witnessed fierce battles in the spring of 2022, has turned into ruins as the Russian army is dismantling it for scrap metal, despite promises to restore the enterprise
The Mariupol City Council press service reported this on Telegram, sharing a video taken by a local resident.
"One of the city residents managed to access the destroyed plant by the Russians and captured what is happening there today. The video clearly shows that the occupiers are not carrying out any restoration work on the territory of the Ukrainian plant. Only ruins and debris remain... Now the Russians are dismantling the facility," the statement said.
The city council also reminded that Azovstal is a symbol of strength and resilience, as Ukrainian defenders held the city's defense for almost three months.
"When we return, there will definitely be a memorial here to commemorate all those who sacrificed their lives for the defense of Mariupol," the city council declared.
