Russian forces build pontoon crossing after Ukrainian strike in Chongar
A satellite image shows that the Ukrainian army's strikes were successful and disabled the bridge, as the Russian occupiers had to build a pontoon crossing in the Kherson region, near Crimea
The satellite image was shared on Twitter by an OSINT analyst using the pseudonym Def Mon.
The image, dated August 9, surfaced three days after the Ukrainian Defense Forces' strike on the bridge. It unveils the construction of a third bridge in the Chonhar area. Prior to this, there were two bridges, a railway and a road bridge. The new pontoon bridge is located between them.
This is not the first instance of a strike on Chonhar, prompting the Russian forces to construct and deploy the new bridge within a matter of hours. In late June, Russian troops established a pontoon crossing in Chonhar in response to another Ukrainian strike on the bridge.
This development serves as a reminder that even seemingly minor damage to infrastructure can have significant implications, according to military expert Oleksandr Kovalenko.
“On the other hand, this also shows that things in southern Ukraine are proceeding as planned, and even… Even more quickly than expected. After all, the pontoon crossing near the Antonivka bridge in Kherson was set up right after the bridge was severely damaged,” he stated on Telegram.
