World kickboxing champion Roman Holovatyuk killed in war in Ukraine
Roman Holovatyuk, Merited Master of Sports of Ukraine and world kickboxing champion, has been killed in the Russian-Ukrainian war
Kamianets-Podilskyi City Council and the Youth and Sports Committee of the Ukrainian parliament reports.
“This morning, our community was shocked by the terrible news of the death of Roman Holovatyuk... This is terrible news that I do not want to believe. I wish it was a mistake,” the statement reads.
The city council says that Roman Holovatyuk left his sports career and went to the front as a volunteer from the first days of the full-scale invasion.
“He made a big name for himself all over Ukraine and beyond at the age of 22 when he won a medal at the X World Games in Poland in 2017. And after that, he continued his outstanding sports career: WAKO kickboxing champion, World Games finalist, world champion, multiple World and European Cup winner, multiple Ukrainian champion. He is a famous athlete, a true Ukrainian, a warrior and a hero,” the Sports Committee of Ukraine emphasized.
For reference. Roman Holovatyuk was born on September 30, 1995, in the village of Krasnostavtsi, Khmelnytskyi region. In 2012, he entered Podilskyi State Agrarian and Technical University, and in 2014, he started training in the kickboxing section.
