Trump’s remarks signal U.S. willingness to compromise, shaping Russian demands - Ukrainian major
Ukrainian National Guard Reserve Major Oleksii Hetman says that the U.S. and other countries are attempting to conduct preliminary negotiations with Ukraine and Russia to offer compromise options for halting the conflict
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"The U.S. and other countries are attempting to conduct preliminary negotiations with Ukraine and Russia to offer compromise options for halting hostilities and trying to resolve the situation peacefully, though it’s difficult to understand how this could be achieved," noted Major Oleksii Hetman.
According to the National Guard Reserve officer, Trump’s statements are linked to the need for the U.S. to make certain moves, seemingly showing a willingness to meet Russia halfway, indicating that the US could scale back its support for Ukraine. This signals possible concessions from the US for a compromise solution.
"And the partners are succeeding in some ways because if you look at what Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov said about their demands before these negotiations, some of them have already been removed. Previously, there were demands to reduce the Ukrainian army to 85,000, but this proposal from Russia no longer exists. Restrictions on the range of our artillery and all flying units to 40 km are also no longer being put forward. Then there were demands from Russia for Ukraine not to have bilateral military contacts with other countries, which are also not present now," explained Hetman.
A veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war, Oleksii Hetman, concluded that Russia is removing some of its demands on Ukraine due to these being among the demands of our partners. All these discussions mark the beginning of negotiations.
