Russia aims for southern superiority with Mariupol -Rostov-on-Don railroad - military expert Zgurets
Defense Express CEO and military expert Serhiy Zgurets believes that the Russian army is interested in the Vuhledar direction, aiming to push back the Ukrainian defenses in that area
Heshared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"When we say that Russia has built a railroad to Mariupol, it is most likely an attempt to gain advantages in the southern direction. The invaders are focused on the Vuhledar direction to push our defenses back from Vuhledar and further into Ukrainian territory. The construction of these railways is aimed at improving Russian logistics in the south, as logistics there are built through three main routes: the Crimean bridge and the restoration of roads and railways, which the enemy is actively working on now," said Serhiy Zgurets.
According to him, the way to counteract this is to destroy the bridges along the new Russian railroad. He hopes that such measures will be implemented.
"We see that, as before, Russia is waging war using railroads. It rebuilds railways to supply its troops. The new railroad mentioned by Mariupol advisor Petro Andriushchenko pertains to the south and poses a threat to the Vuhledar direction," summarized the expert.
- In May, Petro Andriushchenko, an advisor to the mayor of Mariupol, said that the railroad connecting Volnovakha to Rostov-on-Don via Mariupol would be launched in late May or early June.
- On August 4, Petro Andriushchenko informed that the Russian forces had opened a newly built railroad connecting Rostov-on-Don with Mariupol.
