Russia is bogged down in street battles for Vovchansk: Syrskyi on Russian offensive in Kharkiv region
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi said that the Russian forces are totally stuck in street battles in Vovchansk, Kharkiv region.
Syrskyi wrote about this on Facebook.
According to him, after the first minor successes in the offensive in the Kharkiv region, Russian forces got bogged down in street fighting.
"The Russian enemy is completely bogged down in street battles for Vovchansk and has suffered very high losses in the personnel of assault units. Currently, the Russian enemy is moving reserves from different directions in an attempt to support active assault operations, but to no avail," Syrskyi wrote.
He added that the Russian enemy also suffered significant losses in the Lyptsi area and switched to active defense, conducting mining and firing on the positions of Ukrainian troops.
In the Kupyansk sector, fighting continues in the forest north of the town. The situation is difficult in the vicinity of Kyslivka, where the Russian enemy is trying to break through our defenses and reach the Oskil River.
"Intense fighting continues in the area of Ivanivske and on the outskirts of Chasiv Yar. The Russian enemy is trying to hold on to the town at any cost, using the latest T-90M, BMP-3, BMD-4, which are usually destroyed by our anti-tank weapons and FPV drones during the advance," said Syrskyi.
He stressed that the most intense and fierce fighting is taking place in the Pokrovske and Kurakhove sectors. The Russian enemy is trying to break through the defenses of Ukrainian troops in a narrow section of the frontline between Staromykhailivka and Berdychi using offensive and assault actions of the most trained units.
"The offensive is carried out both with the use of armored vehicles and on foot, often on motorcycles and buggies," the Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief said.
- On May 23, the Institute for the Study of War concluded that the Russian army had launched a limited offensive in the Kharkiv sector earlier than planned due to the US decision to provide aid to Ukraine.
