Russia commits 137,000 war crimes in Ukraine - Zelenskyy
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russians have committed 137,000 war crimes, and there should be at least as many sentences against them
He said this at the high-level international conference ‘United for Justice. Accountability for attacks on civilian objects,’ Ukrinform reports.
‘As of today, there are at least 137,000 reasons for us to continue this work and to bring it to an logical end. 137,000 is the number of war crimes committed by Russia at the moment. This is what is known. Crimes against peace and humanity, against our state, against our people, against Ukraine and Ukrainians. And this means that there should be no fewer sentences,’ the president said.
Zelenskyy stressed that justice should be perceived equally everywhere in the world.
‘Every nation is aware of the price of justice. In every state that truly respects human life and international law, there simply cannot be justice. I would like to emphasize that in every state, regardless of how its national legislation is written, which international treaties it has ratified and whether the Rome Statute has entered into force on the territory of a particular state,’ he stressed.
- As of April 19, law enforcement agencies in Ukraine were investigating about 3,800 war crimes committed by the Russian Federation against Ukrainian children.
