Prosecutors send to court case against Russian soldier who shot civilians in Bucha
Ukraine's Prosecutor General's Office have sent to court an indictment against a Russian serviceman involved in the shooting of civilians in Bucha, Kyiv region
This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
It is a 24-year-old deputy commander of a combat vehicle, a gunner-operator of the 76th Guards Air Assault Chernihiv Division of the Russian Airborne Forces.
According to the investigation, in March 2022, during the occupation of Bucha, he shot at two civilian cars that were trying to evacuate from the combat zone.
“In particular, while moving as part of a military convoy, the accused opened fire from a 30-mm automatic cannon of an airborne combat vehicle (BMD-2) at vehicles carrying seven civilians, including two young children,” the statement said.
It is noted that the shooting killed four civilians - a mother, two children aged 5 and 10, who were in the first car, as well as their neighbor, who was driving in the second car behind. Three others sustained injuries of varying degrees. The father of the shot family had his left shin amputated due to severe injuries.
The Office of the Prosecutor General emphasizes that during the attack, civilian cars were parked on the roadside, did not move in the direction of the military convoy and did not pose any threat.
The defendant is charged with violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with premeditated murder (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He faces life imprisonment.
