In Poland, 55% of respondents spoke in favor of ending the war in Ukraine even at the cost of territorial concessions to Russia. In April 2022, only 26% of respondents believed so

This is evidenced by a poll by the Polish Center for Public Opinion Research (CBOS), reports Polish Radio.

Sociologists note that for the first time since the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine, the opinion prevails in Polish society that Kyiv should reach a peace agreement with the Russian Federation, even if this entails the loss of part of Ukraine's territories or independence. Currently, 55% of respondents hold this opinion, while in September this year, 39% of respondents held this opinion, and in April 2022, 26%.

Only 31% of Polish respondents now believe that Ukraine should continue the fight without making any concessions to Russia (in September 2024, this was 46%, in April 2022 – 59%).

CBOS notes that at different stages of the war, Poles believed that Ukrainians (with the support of the West) should continue to fight and not make concessions to Russia. However, since the beginning of the second year of the full-scale war, this percentage has been constantly decreasing, and in the last three months it has fallen by several percentage points.

As the survey showed, peace negotiations with the Russian Federation are more likely to be supported by Poles in the age group of 18-24 years, residents of the smallest towns, poorly educated people, citizens in difficult financial situations, deeply religious and those who profess right-wing views.

The research was conducted from November 28 to December 8, 2024.

It is worth noting that, according to the results of a KIIS survey published in November, only 32% of respondents in Ukraine are ready for territorial concessions to the Russian Federation for the sake of peace.

  • On December 16, Slovak President Peter Pellegrini stated that Ukraine "will be forced" to make territorial concessions to the Russian Federation.
  • Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak stated on December 17 that negotiations with Russia on a lasting peace will begin only when the enemy no longer has the resources to continue the war against Ukraine.
