Poland to allocate $2.5bn for fortifications on borders with Russia, Belarus - PM Tusk
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk says Warsaw will allocate 10 billion zlotys (over $2.5 billion) to strengthen the country's eastern border with Russia and Belarus
This is reported by Ukrinform.
"We have decided to invest 10 billion zlotys in our security, and especially in a secure eastern border. We are launching a major project to build a secure border, including a system of fortifications, as well as such landscaping and environmental solutions that will make it impossible for a potential enemy to cross this border," Tusk said.
He added that the Polish government has already begun to allocate these 10 billion zlotys, and the relevant work is already underway. According to him, the national defence and deterrence plan is called "Shield East" (Tarcza Wschod).
"We have named this national defence and deterrence plan "Shield East" (Tarcza Wschod). It will be a shield that will protect us from potential aggressors from the east and deter the enemy on the 400 km stretch of the border with Russia and Belarus," Tusk said.
- On May 14, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that the government will allocate an additional $25.3 million to strengthen its intelligence services amid the growing threat from Russia.
- Earlier, Supreme Allied Commander Europe Christopher Cavoli said that Russia is not going to stop in Ukraine and chronically threatens the world, so supporting Ukraine in the war against Russia is crucial for the world.
